Once upon a time,(很久以前) there was a farmer in the central region (中心地区)of China. He didn't have a lot of money and, instead of a tractor(拖拉机), he used an old horse to plow his field(耕地).
One afternoon, while working in the field, the horse dropped dead(倒地死亡). Everyone in the village said, "Oh, what a horrible(可怕的) thing to happen."
The farmer said simply, "We'll see."
He was so at peace(平和) and so calm(镇定), that everyone in the village got together and, admiring his attitude(佩服他的态度), gave him a new horse as a gift.
Everyone's reaction(反应) now was, "What a lucky man." And the farmer said, "We'll see."
A couple days(几天) later, the new horse jumped a fence (越过栅栏)and ran away. Everyone in the village shook their heads (摇头)and said, "What a poor fellow!
The farmer smiled and said, "We'll see."
Eventually, the horse found his way home, and everyone again said, "What a fortunate man."
The farmer said, "We'll see."
Later in the year, the farmer's young boy went out riding on the horse(出去骑马) and fell(跌落) and broke(摔坏) his leg. Everyone in the village said, "What a shame(多么遗憾) for the poor boy."
The farmer said, "We'll see."
Two days later, the army came into the village to draft new recruits(招新兵). When they saw that the farmer's son had a broken leg, they decided not to recruit him.
Everyone said, "What a fortunate young man."
The farmer smiled again and said, "We'll see."
Moral(精神) of the story: There's no use(没用) in overreacting(反应过强) to the events and circumstances of our everyday lives. Many times what looks like a setback,(挫折) may actually be a gift in disguise(化装的). And when our hearts are in the right place, all events and circumstances are gifts that we can learn valuable lessons from. [ 此贴被羽慧爱在2008-06-21 23:09重新编辑 ]
